Ford RepreveFord will use Repreve fiber, made from 100 percent recycled materials including plastic bottles, in its 2015 F-150.

The automaker says this will divert more than 5 million plastic bottles from landfills this year.

Since 2012, Ford has worked with Unifi to use Repreve in its vehicles. The company currently uses the recycled material in five vehicles around the world.

Ford uses other sustainable materials in its cars and trucks, and is among the companies — others include Coca Cola, Heinz, Nike and Proctor & Gamble — that have formed the Plant PET Technology Collaborative, intended for development and use of 100 percent biobased plastic polyethylene terephthalate in their products.
