Unilever, Nestlé, Anheuser-Busch InBev and hundreds of other top food and drink companies, all members of the Consumer Goods Forum, have committed to halve food waste within their operations by 2025, compared to a 2016 baseline.Some 30 percent of food produced is wasted each year with food waste responsible for adding 3.3 billion metric tons of GHG emissions, the CFG says.
The 400-member organization last week approved a food waste resolution, the third resolution of the CGF’s Sustainability Pillar. The other two resolutions, adopted in 2010, aim to achieve zero net deforestation by 2020 and beginning the phase-out hydro fluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerants by 2015.
