Fisker Seeks Court Approval for Sale of 3,000+ Ocean EVs Amid Bankruptcy Proceedings

The Fisker Ocean, an all-electric mid-size crossover SUV launched in 2023, stands out for its remarkable blend of sustainability and high performance. This SUV features a revolutionary SolarSky roof that can harness solar energy to generate up to 1,500 miles of emissions-free driving annually. Additionally, its unique California Mode allows eight glass panels to open simultaneously, transforming the SUV into a convertible.

The optional 17.1-inch Revolve Center Screen enhances the in-car experience, switching between portrait and landscape orientations. At the same time, Limo Mode offers rear passengers control over the cabin environment via a digital touchscreen. With an impressive range of up to 360 miles, the Fisker Ocean accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and delivers 564 peak horsepower with its dual motor option.

However, Fisker’s journey took an unexpected turn.

The company has asked a bankruptcy judge to approve the sale of over 3,000 Ocean electric SUVs from its inventory to a vehicle-leasing company for approximately $14,000 each. Following court approval, Fisker will sell 3,321 electric vehicles to New York-based American Lease for $46.25 million, as detailed in a court filing. This move comes after Fisker, facing logistical challenges and a significant cash burn, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last month.

Earlier this year, Fisker transitioned to a dealer-partner model to manage its financial struggles, slashing the prices of some Ocean SUV variants from around $70,000 to about $25,000 to raise capital and meet debt obligations. In a significant pre-bankruptcy agreement on May 30, American Lease committed to purchasing 2,100 Ocean EVs. This agreement was later expanded to include all 3,321 ready-for-sale units.

American Lease, serving rideshare drivers in the New York City area, offers a fleet of cars for lease or rent. This move aligns with New York City’s mandate for rideshare fleets to transition to zero-emission or wheelchair-accessible vehicles by 2030, highlighting the strategic fit of the Fisker Ocean in this evolving market.
