The Department of Energy issued a pre-publication final rule regarding energy conservation standards for Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners (PTACs) and Packaged Terminal Heat Pumps (PTHPs).
Based on the analysis supporting this final rule, DOE was not able to show with clear and convincing evidence that energy conservation standards for PTAC and PTHP equipment at any of the considered efficiency levels that are more stringent than the minimum level specified in the ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1-2013 are economically justified. Therefore, in accordance with these and other statutory provisions discussed in the notice, DOE is amending energy conservation standards for standard-sized PTAC equipment to be equivalent to the standards for standard-sized PTAC equipment found in ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1-2013.
These amended standards apply to all standard-sized PTAC equipment manufactured in, or imported into, the United States on or after the compliance date. The standards for PTHP equipment remain unchanged.
