Facebook is building a datacenter in Los Lunas, New Mexico, according to the Albuquerque Journal.
There could be as many as six phases to the project, which is characterizes as being “massive.” The first phase, which could begin next month, will cost $250 million and create 30 to 50 jobs.
The story says that New Mexico beat Utah for the deal due to the cooperation of regulators. The story describes the long and complicated process that the government of New Mexico undertook to entice Facebook to make the move. Among highlights:
Los Lunas passed both an industrial revenue bond measure of up to $30 billion, a $10 million Local Economic Development Act measure, and promised the company a monthly reimbursement of the village’s share of gross tax revenues. The state also offered Facebook access to up to $3 million in Job Training Incentive Program funding, according to Economic Development Secretary Jon Barela, although it is unclear how much of the money Facebook will use.
