EPA Announces College and University Green Power Challenge Winners

indiv conf winners energy manageThe Big Ten is the Collective Conference Champion of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 2014–2015 College and University Green Power Challenge. The University of Pennsylvania topped the individual school challenge for the eighth year in a row.

Big 10 purchased more than 375 million kWh of green power during the academic year. The Big 12 came in second, purchasing 248 million kWh of green power, and the Ivy League rounded out the top three with a collective green power purchase of 207 million kWh. The University of Pennsylvania purchased more than 200 million kWh of green power during the 2014–2015 academic year.

EPA concluded the Green Power Challenge on April 27 and recognized a Champion Green Power Conference as well as the largest single green power users within each participating conference as 2014–2015 Green Power Challenge conference champions. To be listed, a conference must have at least one Green Power Partner and an aggregate green power purchase of at least 10 million kWh across the conference. Thirty-nine athletic conferences competed in the 2014–2015 Challenge.

The 90 schools in the EPA's 2014–15 College and University Green Power Challenge used 2.4 billion kWh of green power this year.
