Here’s the latest news on hirings, promotions and departures among environmental leaders.
Better Place: The EV battery swapping company's CEO Evan Thornley, who took over in October 2012 after the departure of founder Shai Agassi, has left the company. Idan Ofer will assume the role of executive chairman and manage external relationships and alliances for Better Place, while Alan Gelman, global CFO, will manage day-to-day operations, the company said.
Proterra: The battery-electric transit bus manufacturer has hired Ron Garrison (pictured) to lead its customer service department. Garrison previously served as executive director of StarMetro Transit in Tallahassee, Fla., and is the past chairman of the Florida Public Transportation Association.
Edgcomb Law Group: The environmental law firm has added two partners, Nancy Wilms and Tiffany Hedgpeth. Wilms and Hedgpeth, formerly partners at Bingham McCutchen in Los Angeles, will spearhead the opening of ELG's new office in Burbank, Calif.
National Park Foundation: The official charity of America's national parks announced Valerie Dorian as the foundation's senior vice president of corporate partnerships and strategic alliances. In this role, Dorian will provide strategic oversight of the foundation's corporate and cause marketing. Dorian comes from The Nature Conservancy, where she worked for eight years as the director of brand marketing and strategic partnerships.
Sustainable Silicon Valley: The non-profit consortium of business, government agencies and academic and research institutions has elected three new board members: Jamie Orr, a physics and engineering instructor at Foothill College; Masaru Sakamoto, senior vice president for Asia/Japan with EcoPlexus; and Zann Gill, founding director of the Microbes Mind Forum and EcoDesyn Lab.
AquaFiber Technologies Corp.: The developer of nutrient-removal technology for surface water and wastewater has named Kirby Green III as president. Green has served as senior vice president of AquaFiber for the past year. He also is a member of the company's board of directors and sits on its executive committee, which develops strategic plans and develops new markets.
Waste Corporation: The non-hazardous solid waste services company has appointed James Cowhey Jr. as CEO. Cowhey joins WCA following the sale of Chicago-based Land and Lakes Co., where he had served as president and CEO since 2001.
Herakles Farms (SG-SOC): The New York-based agriculture company operating in Ghana and Cameroon announce the appointment of Atanga Ekobo as vice president of conservation. Ekobo worked for the past 10 years as program coordinator for the WWF Coastal Forests Program in Cameroon.
Saul Ewing: The law firm announced John P. Englert has joined as partner in its energy, environment and utilities department. Englert, who focuses his practice on energy, environmental and safety and health matters for commercial and industrial clients, will work out of Saul Ewing's Pittsburgh office.
