WSP Environment & Energy: The consultancy has appointed former Nike sustainability director Phil Berry (left) as vice-president in the sustainability strategy practice of its North American operation. For the past three years Berry has led his own consultancy, Sustainable Product Works, LLC.

The Building Performance Institute: The retrofit credentialing organization has appointed Bruce DeMaine as director of certifications and standards. DeMaine most recently served as vice president of certifications for the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI).

Johnson & Johnson: The personal and health care company has named Parynaz Mehta senior manager for product stewardship. She was previously staff environmental engineer and product steward at Cordis Corporation, a Johnson & Johnson Company.

Solar Trust of America: The developer appointed Edward L. Sullivan as vice president of corporate communications and external affairs. He was previously director of the clean tech practice at PR company Antenna Group.

ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability USA: The environmental association for local governments has named Hilari B. Varnadore as its director of the STAR Community Index, a rating system and performance management tool launched in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council, the Center for American Progress and the National League of Cities. Varnadore was previously sustainability director for Frederick County, Md.

8minutenergy Renewables: The solar PV developer named Kevin Butler as vice president of project finance. Butler is the former director of energy supply for Pacific Gas and Electric.

NTE Energy: The developer of hybrid renewable power plants has named Melissa Houskamp as chief financial officer. She was previously a principal at MAS Energy.

Echelon: The open-standard energy control networking company has appointed product strategist Varun Nagaraj to the position of senior vice president of product management and product marketing.

Atlantic Wind & Solar: Pierre Cousin has stepped down from his role as CEO, and has been replaced by company chairman Gilles Trahan. Mark Holcombe, managing director for Madison Williams Advisors, and Luc C. Duchesne, former senior research scientist for Natural Resources Canada, have been appointed to the board of directors.

Valence Technology: The energy storage developer and manufacturer announced the resignation of chief financial officer Ross Goolsby. Corporate controller Donald E. Gottschalk will assume the role of acting CFO.

Allete: The parent company of utilities in Minnesota and Wisconsin has named president and CEO Alan R. Hodnik to succeed Don Shippar as chair of its board of directors. Hodnik will continue to serve as CEO and Shippar will continue on the board.
