Global Reporting Initiative: The organization has appointed Herman Mulder (pictured) as chairman of the board. Mulder is a former senior executive vice-president at ABN AMRO. He was appointed vice-chairman following the departure of Professor Mervyn King in October 2011, and has been acting chairman in the interim period. GRI has now appointed Anita Normark as vice-chairman of the board.
American Airlines: After filing for bankruptcy, the company announced executive changes including naming James B. Ream as senior vice president – operations, with additional responsibility for the environmental department, among others. Executive vice president – operations Robert W. Reding retired.
EPA: The Hill reports that Paul Anastas, widely regarded as the father of green chemistry, is leaving his role as head of the agency’s Office of Research and Development and returning to Yale University.
American Institute for Packaging and the Environment (Ameripen): The trade and advocacy organization announced the retirement of its president, Joan Pierce of Colgate-Palmolive Company. Pierce will be succeeded by Gail Tavill of ConAgra Foods, Inc., formerly the group’s vice president. In addition, Shanna Moore of DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers has named vice president, and Jeff Wooster of The Dow Chemical Company succeeds Moore as secretary. Richard Abramowitz, director of public affairs of WM Recycle Services, has joined the board of directors on an interim basis to serve out the remainder of Pierce’s term.
Silver Spring Networks: The smart grid company’s COO Warren Jenson has now left his position, the Wall Street Journal reported.
AccountAbility: The corporate responsibility organization has appointed Gilbert Rustom as regional head for the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Rustom is the founder and was the managing partner of BlindSpot Communication, a brand and marketing consultancy based in Saudi Arabia. AccountAbility has also appointed Carol Atwood, chair of King Arthur Flour, to its advisory council.
U.S. Green Building Council: The LEED standard setters announced its 2012 Board of Directors: Fiona Cousins, Arup, filling the Designer of Buildings seat; Marge Anderson, Energy Center of Wisconsin, filling the Environmental Nonprofit Advocate seat; George Bandy Jr., Interface, filling the Large-Scale Manufacturer seat; John Dalzell, City of Boston/Boston Redevelopment Authority, filling the Urban/Regional Planner seat; Joseph Sanches, School District of Palm Beach County, filling the Educator (K-12) seat; Stephen G. Bushnell, Fireman's Fund Insurance Company, filling the Insurance seat; Gary Jay Saulson, The PNC Financial Services Group, filling the Finance seat. The Board elected Allan Skodowski, Transwestern as chair-elect and Lisa Shpritz, Bank of America, as Treasurer. Other 2012 officers continuing in their terms are Chair Elizabeth J. Heider, Skanska, and Punit Jain, Cannon Design, as secretary. Mark MacCracken, CALMAC Manufacturing Corppration, will serve as immediate past chair. Howard Frumkin, from the University of Washington School of Public Health, has been appointed by the board to serve as its advisor on public health.
Lunera Lighting: The LED maker has appointed Doug Hickey as executive chairman of the board and Michael Keddington as CEO. Hickey was most recently partner at Hummer Winblad Venture Partners and CEO of Critical Path. Keddington has worked for Intel, Sanmina-SCI, Oracle and Symantec.
First Wind: The wind power developer has appointed Michele Beasley as senior vice president and general counsel. She most recently served as senior legal counsel to the Securities Investment Group of the Wholesale Division at Wells Fargo Bank in San Francisco and Boston. First Wind has also promoted Joe “EJ” Martin to vice president of operations, from regional operations manager – East.
Solazyme: The biofuel company’s COO Jeffrey Webster has resigned for health and personal reasons, three months after he joined the company, Bloomberg News reported. He was previously general manager of the renewable products business at Tyson Foods.
Ecotality: The electric vehicle infrastructure company named Murray Jones as COO. Jones joins from ABB, where he was responsible for the company’s EV infrastructure initiative in North America.
AeroVironment: The developer of electric transportation products announced that Wahid Nawabi has joined as senior vice president and general manager of its Efficient Energy Systems (EES) business segment. Nawabi spent 16 years at American Power Conversion. Mike Bissonette will assume the role of senior vice president and deputy general manager of the EES business segment.
Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP): The facility-based social and environmental compliance certification and training organization announced that CEO Steve Jesseph retired at the end of 2011.
Ernst & Young: The consultancy has appointed Chris Walker, former executive officer of the Carbon Trust, as an associate director. Brendan LeBlanc, former CEO of LeBlanc & Associates, will join the firm’s Climate Change and Sustainability Services practice as an executive director. In addition, Stephen Thiel is now an executive director and Catherine Zhou a principal with E&Y’s Advisory Services Power & Utilities practice.
Enerkem: The waste-to-biofuels and chemicals company announced that James (Jim) Conner joined its executive team as senior vice president, operations. Jim Conner spent most of his career at Celanese Corporation, a global producer of acetyl products and engineered polymers.
AECOM: The company has named Jim Dray as chief technology officer for its environment business.
Clean Harbors: The provider of environmental, energy and industrial services has appointed Christine R. McGee senior vice president, marketing for energy and industrial services. She joins from Weatherford where she was vice president of marketing.
RoofScreen Manufacturing: The parent of Silverback Solar has named David “Lad” Wallace as COO. He has been a consultant for the company for the past 16 months and previously was CFO at Akeena Solar (trading as Westinghouse Solar).
Energy Conversion Devices: The provider of solar products and systems for the building-integrated and commercial rooftop market has appointed Julian Hawkins as CEO, president and a member of the board. Hawkins was senior vice president, sales and marketing of Abound Solar.
ThinkEco: The developer of energy efficiency hardware and software has named Erik Katz as CEO. He was CEO of carbon credit project developer Blue Source.
Sunlogics: The company selected former executive VP of finance Charles Bryant as interim CEO and appointed Kamesh Gupta to the board. Gupta worked for General Motors for 36 years, most recently as global manager, engineering and strategic programs, in the energy and utilities services group.
Eco Power Solutions: The emission control and energy recovery company announced that Thomas J. Bartolomei has joined as CEO from Areva Solar, where he was CCO and SVP.
Zerofootprint Software: The cleantech software and services company has added Kenneth Ogilvie to its board. Ogilvie has served as executive director of Pollution Probe. Before this, he was manager of policy coordination for the Ontario Ministry of Environment and Energy.
