Energy Efficient T8 Ballasts Chart 41% Increase in Availability

Posted

ceeMembers of the Consortium for Energy Efficiency have noted a 41 percent increase in the number of qualifying energy efficient T8 fluorescent lighting ballasts, according to the consortium's 2009 annual report (PDF).

The consortium of ratepayer funded energy efficiency programs run in the states and provinces of the United States and Canada, seeks greater market availability of items for use in industrial, commercial and residential applications across a range of products lines such as premium efficiency motors, waste/wastewater treatment, HVAC, lighting, foodservice and more.

The attached chart shows the advances in efficiency in each sector. The fatter the line, the more progress has been made.

Other highlights from the report include:

- A 200-400 percent increase in product availability, since 2007, of energy efficient unitary air conditioning and heat pumps.

- A 20 percent increase in energy efficient foodservice kitchen appliances.

- Research found that the biggest energy use in water treatment comes from pumping.

- Research found that the biggest energy uses in wastewater treatment comes from blowers, pumps and sludge handling.

Without major advances in energy efficiency, U.S. energy consumption is projected to grow 14 percent from 2008 to 2035.
