TWC logo Energy ManageTime Warner Cable (TWC) will focus on energy efficiency and fleet reduction efforts to meet its new two-year goal to reduce its carbon intensity by 30 percent by the end of 2016.

Earlier this year, TWC announced it achieved a 38 percent carbon intensity reduction, surpassing the 15 percent two-year goal set in 2012. To reach the new goal, the company will aim to reduce cooling power consumption, pursue LEED elements in all new buildings and seek new renewable energy opportunities. It will also invest in fuel-efficient vehicles and continue strategic partnerships such as EPA Clean Cities Clean Fleets.

The company’s Go Green initiative has resulted in the following energy efficiency accomplishments:

  • Installed a 500kw solar photovoltaic system on the roof of our National Data Center East in Charlotte, North Carolina.
  • Met industry benchmark for green design, achieving Gold LEED Certification for the National Data Center West in Peakview, Colorado, and Silver LEED Certification for the Charlotte National Data Center East in Charlotte, as well as the Charlotte office and Herndon, Virginia, Dulles View office.
  • Introduced a customized carbon calculator tool for TWC employees, powered by the Center for Energy and Climate Solutions (C2ES), to educate employees about the carbon dioxide they generate each year and suggest energy-saving steps to reduce impact.

To support an overall industry-wide commitment to energy efficiency, TWC has joined with 14 other cable, satellite and telephone companies and vendors to put into effect a voluntary five-year Set-Top Box Energy Conservation Agreement. This agreement, executed in late 2012, is expected to result in annual residential electricity savings across the Multichannel Video Programming Distributor (MVPD) industry of $1.5 billion or more by the end of 2017.
