The Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire, WI, has officially unveiled its Energy Education Center. The facility, which has been operational since last month, will enable students to use elements of the building itself as a learning environment, according weau.com. The CVTC Foundation funded much of the $10 million cost of the facility.
The curricula focuses on energy generation, distribution and efficient utilization and conservation. Programs and apprenticeships include studies of air conditioning; heating and refrigeration; power distribution; environmental refrigeration and air conditioning. Students can learn to be heating service technicians and serve an electric line worker apprenticeship. There also are other opportunities that are not directly related to energy topics.
Students in The New London-Spicer (MN) School District may learn about energy at an even earlier age. The West Central Tribune reports that the NLS School Board is pursuing a proposal to create a “hands-on proving grounds” for energy and related concepts and technologies. The concept is still in the planning phases. Potential funding is from grants and legislative allotments.
