Emerson announced it has begun construction on a 35,000-square-foot energy efficient data center at its corporate headquarters in St. Louis. In addition to installing energy saving features, the facility will also showcase technologies from Emerson Network Power.
Fox Architects, the project's lead architect, estimates that the facility's design will provide energy savings of 17.5 percent compared to a traditional data center.
The data center is seeking LEED Silver Certification and will have energy-saving features such as a roof-top solar installation, which will provide the center with 100 kilowatts of power. It will also feature Emerson Network Power products from brands such as Aperture, ASCO, Knurr and Liebert.
The new data center is part of Emerson's global consolidation effort to integrate the operations of more than 100 data centers into four facilities, and is expected to open next summer.
Last year, Emerson Network Power released a report which it says provides data center and IT managers with a prioritized approach to reducing energy consumption. The company is also a member of The Green Grid, a non-profit consortium working to advance energy efficiency in data centers and business computing.
