EH&S Tech Services Leaders Revealed

CH2M Hill, ERM and E2 ManageTech are among the nine leading environment, health and safety information management and technology services firms, according to a Verdantix report, Green Quadrant EH&S Technology Services.

The study findings are based on interviews with 15 buyers of EH&S information management consulting services, a survey of 250 heads of EH&S and an assessment of 12 consultancies on 133 criteria. The consulting firms included span environmental consultancies — CH2M Hill, E2 ManageTech, Environ, ERM, Trinity Consultants and URS — as well as the IT consultants Accenture, Atos, CGI, CSC, Deloitte and Wipro.

The capabilities assessment, which covers consulting services for system selection, app development, IT integration, process design, training and system support, found that CH2M Hill has the broadest and deepest consulting capabilities relative to its competitors, followed by E2 ManageTech and ERM. The momentum assessment, which considers metrics such as brand awareness, customer base and organizational scale, scored Accenture the highest, with ERM and CH2M Hill next on the list. Additional consulting firms in the leaders quadrant are CGI, Environ, Trinity Consultants, URS and Wipro.

Other key findings:

• About 1,500 professionals are involved in the EH&S information management and technology services market worldwide.
• Sixty-seven percent of buyers have worked with environmental consultancies for EH&S technology services, 53 percent with EH&S software providers and 47 percent with engineering consultants.
• Sixty percent of buyers plan to invest in solution design and customization in 2015 and 2016 whilst 53 percent plan to invest in application development.
• EH&S leaders are always involved in selecting a consultancy for EH&S information management services and IT decision-makers are involved 53 percent of the time.

A separate Verdantix study published last month found improving environment, health and safety, energy and sustainability reporting are top priorities among sustainability leaders at high-revenue firms: more than 90 percent of respondents cite improvements in health and safety, energy and environmental management as “very important” or “important.”
