Ecova Acquires Building Efficiency Intelligence Firm Retroficiency

evocaEcova, which describes itself as a “total energy and sustainability management” firm, has acquired building efficiency intelligence company Retroficiency.

The release says that Ecova will use patent-pending building analytics technology to increase energy savings for commercial and industrial customers. Both utility-based and direct marketing approaches will be used.

Retroficiency’s technology analyzes meter data and building information to create energy models that identify efficiencies and savings opportunities. Commentary in the press release – which contains no financial details on the sale – suggests that the combination will enable the real-time tailoring of programs to customers. Ecova serves almost 50 utilities and 700,000 sites in the United States. It has saved more than 108 terawatt-hours during the past 11 years.

Building efficiency is a growing topic. In late September, Natural Resources Defense Council Senior Advocate Lindsay Robbins posted a commentary on the NYC Retrofit Accelerator. She said it is the nation’s first city-run, data-driven, one-stop shop for owners seeking to improve the energy and water efficiency of their buildings.
