Electric transportation and storage technology company Ecotality and Silver Spring Networks, have announced an agreement to integrate Ecotality's Blink electric vehicle charging stations with the Silver Spring Smart Energy Platform.
Ecotality will market and sell the integrated Blink stations globally, enabling utilities to offer their customers smart EV charging options.
Silver Spring utility clients will also be able to use the networking company's UtilityIQ Demand Response Manager - a demand response management system that includes smart EV charging — with the charging stations.
The companies demonstrated product interoperability at the Grid-Interop 2011 conference this week.
In November, Ecotality announced it was to install its electric vehicle charging stations at over 10 Walmart stores in California, Oregon, and Washington.
The project is part of Ecotality’s EV Project, which is overseeing the installation of about 14,000 commercial and residential charging stations in 18 major metropolitan areas. The project, funded in part through a federal stimulus grant, aims to support the deployment of 8,300 EVs.
