Dow Chemical's Packaging and Specialty Plastics business has collaborated with Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC) and Accredo Packaging to produce Seventh Generation’s first recyclable dishwasher pods packaging.
Dow developed the resins for the recyclable polyethylene stand-up pouch to help ensure the package’s stiffness, toughness and sealability. Accredo Packaging converts these materials into pouches.
The new packaging features SPC’s How2Recycle label. The pouches can be recycled at more than 18,000 store drop-off locations throughout North America.
The recycling of postconsumer plastic film packaging in the US grew 116 million pounds, or 11 percent, in 2013 to reach a reported 1.14 billion pounds, according to a report released at the 2015 Plastics Recycling Conference.
