The Dot Foods' Burley distribution center has won the Idaho Governor’s Office of Energy Resources award for implementing energy efficiency, according to MagicValley.com.
The story says that the company reduced energy consumption at the facility by 9 percent between 2013 and 2014. This was done by replacing 139 metal halide light fixtures with LEDs in the warehouse, refrigeration machinery room, garage and warehouse dock. The company also completed lighting upgrades at its headquarters in Mount Sterling, IL and seven other facilities.
A Dot Foods spokesperson said that the Burley change out cut 216,290 kWh of energy use and saved $1,000 in bulb replacement per year.
In Iowa, food industry company OSI saved more than 7,255,000 kWh in its facility since May 2013, according to Cascade Energy. By the end of the year, that will result in savings of $500,000.
