The 130-year old Bruichladdich whisky distillery has established a system to generate electricity using waste products from the distilling process. Business owner Mark Reynier started using the anaerobic digestion earlier this year.

Now he has take delivery of a Nissan Leaf electric car, which Reynier powers up at the distillery.

In celebration, the Hebridean whiskey maker has produced a limited run of a bespoke organic whisky appropriately called LEAF. The label even features a drawing of the car.

"We are not eco-warriors but we wanted to see how we could do our part,” Reynier said. "Most schemes along these lines are hare-brained and have little commercial merit, but this one does. Though the technology has existed since 1860, only now is it economically viable on this small scale.”
