Duke Energy is building a solar system for Disney World on about 20 acres near the park. The Disney-controlled taxing district in the area voted to accept a 15-year agreement with Duke, reports the Orlando Sentinel. Duke is leasing the land from Disney, and the amusement park will buy the power.
The 48,000 solar panels will be arranged in the shape of a Mickey Mouse head. Construction is expected to begin mid-summer, and the facility should be in service by year's end, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
The 5 MW facility will be the first major solar project at the park.
