Disney Cuts Carbon Emissions 31% in 2014

DisneyThe Walt Disney Company in 2014 decreased its net emissions 31 percent from its 2012 levels, putting Disney on track to reduce net emissions 50 percent by 2020, according to the company’s most recent corporate sustainability report.

The company’s total greenhouse gas emissions in 2014 were 1.63 million metric tons of CO2e. Last year Disney says it retired 531,970 metric tons of CO2e from various carbon projects in the US, China, Brazil and Peru.

Disney has also set a goal to achieve 60 percent waste diversion from landfills and incineration. According to its CSR, during the last quarter of 2014 Disney diverted 48 percent.

Disney is among the companies with the best corporate social responsibility reputation, according to Reputation Institute’s more recent annual CSR RepTrak. Disney ranks no. 3, behind Google (no. 1) and Microsoft (no. 2).
