Derry, NH, is replacing its streetlights with LEDs, according to The New Hampshire Union Leader.
The project, which began on February 1, will eventually see the replacement of 930 of the existing high pressure sodium lights. The story says that the new lights are expected to produce sharper white light compared to the “yellowish hue” of the older lights.
The vendor is Siemens. Weather permitting, the changeover is expected to be finished in six weeks. The piece says that last year the town’s councilors voted 7-0 to project. The cost will be about $280,000 after a $50,000 rebate from Eversource, which is the utility. The new lights are expected to save the town about $75,000 annually.
In January, the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission (PUC) released an order that allows Eversource and electric distribution companies in the state to buy capacity from any natural gas pipeline in the region.
