Businesses that don't have the space or money to install renewable energy may learn from a new model in Denver, where a group solar purchasing program is being formed.
Businesses and residents will be able to pool resources to add solar to Denver-area rooftops, thus receiving lower rates than if they went it alone, according to a press release.
The venture is a partnership between REC Solar and One Block Off The Grid. The program will span out to outlying cities including Boulder and Aurora, among others.
While this may be a good solution for small businesses, larger firms are going ahead with solar projects of their own.
FedEx Ground is building a 2.4 megawatt solar array atop its distribution facility in Woodbridge, N.J., providing up to 30 percent of the hub’s annual energy needs. The solar installation, which is being put in place by BP Solar, will be the largest such array in the U.S.
In EPA’s most recent ranking of Fortune 500 companies that purchase renewable energy, Intel comes out on top, edging out PepsiCo by about 75 million kWh.
