The Denver Federal Center, one of the largest such complexes in the U.S., is adding a 3.2 megawatt solar system.
Construction on the project, which costs $17.3 million, will begin in April, according to a press release.
Sharp Solar Energy Solutions is providing the panels, while Centerre/E Light Wind and Solar will also participate in the project, which is funded through the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act ARRA).
The project will use 14,612 solar modules over three separate buildings in the complex.
The project expects to produce energy equivalent to removing 567 cars from the road per year, or 15.5 railcars' worth of coal.
The upgrade comes as part of the Denver Federal Center's 20-year plan to reduce its environmental impact.
