DENSO Launches Solar Facility in Maryville, Tennessee

First of three local solar projects to power DENSO's clean energy push

Posted

DENSO Manufacturing Tennessee has officially brought a new solar energy facility online in Maryville, marking the completion of the first phase in a three-site renewable energy rollout across Blount County. Spanning nearly 13 acres, the new site features over 4,000 solar panels and is expected to produce around 3,400 MWh of power annually—supporting DENSO’s long-term energy transition efforts.

The project, which broke ground in late 2022, represents a collaborative effort between four regional and industry players: DENSO, the City of Maryville Electric Department, solar developer Silicon Ranch, and the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). Together, these partners have deployed a model that blends local grid integration with scalable solar infrastructure—one that could serve as a template for similar industrial initiatives in the region.

This Maryville facility is the first of three planned installations in the area, with additional projects on track for December 2025 and mid-2026. All sites will provide energy exclusively to DENSO’s operations under TVA’s Green Invest program, which facilitates renewable procurement for businesses while reinforcing power system reliability across the region.

Energy Strategy Aligns with DENSO’s Carbon Neutrality Goals

This local solar investment is a key piece of DENSO’s broader North American sustainability framework, supporting its target to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035. The company’s plan involves sourcing power from all four regional solar projects, including a future facility outside Blount County also managed by Silicon Ranch.

DENSO's approach goes beyond traditional renewable energy credits, opting instead for a hybrid strategy that combines on-site generation with dedicated sourcing from regional solar developers. This setup not only enhances energy resilience for DENSO’s Tennessee facilities but also contributes to job growth and infrastructure development in the local clean energy economy.

The project also coincides with DENSO’s 35th year of operations in Maryville, underlining a long-standing presence in the region that is now evolving in line with global emissions targets. As one of the world’s largest automotive suppliers, the company is aligning facility-level decisions with broader corporate initiatives centered on environmental responsibility and future-focused manufacturing.

Chuntao Ye, President of DMTN and Business Leader of the DENSO North America Peace of Mind Business Group remarked that "We appreciate the City of Maryville, Silicon Ranch and TVA for sharing this commitment with us and look forward to continuing to work together to advance renewable energy in East Tennessee. This only builds upon our 35-year history of working with local partners to give back to our neighbors in Maryville and surrounding communities."
