Since 2005, Dell says it has enabled customers using OptiPlex desktop systems to save an estimated $3 billion in energy costs and avoid nearly 29 million tons of CO2 through power management and energy-efficiency.
In addition, the company says select configurations of the OptiPlex 760 and 960 desktops; Latitude E6400 and E4300 laptops, and Dell Precision M2400 mobile workstation have met Energy Star 5.0 requirements more than seven months ahead of an EPA deadline.
Dell says its new OptiPlex and Latitude systems are the first step in the company’s commitment to design desktops and laptops that consume up to 25 percent less energy by 2010. The energy efficiency of Dell OptiPlex desktops has improved nearly 50 percent since 2005, while Latitude laptops have improved 16 percent since 2006.
Dell recently partnered with Staples to offer in-store recycling program.
In September, the company announced plans to transition all of its new laptop displays to energy-efficient light-emitting diode within 12 months.
