foam food containersDart Container Corporation is opening an expanded polystyrene foam recycling drop-off center in Dallas, Plastics News reports.

Dart’s new facility is one of more than 85 such recycling drop-offs the company has built in the US. It’s located at 4444 West Ledbetter Drive, and is open to businesses, organizations and residents 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Dart has also been advocating for EPS recycling in New York City, which had banned foam foodservice items before the the New York State Supreme Court overturned the foam ban, saying that EPS is recyclable and calling the ban “arbitrary and capricious.”

Dart conducted tests that proved foam foodservice items could be economically and logistically recycled within the city’s five boroughs and has offered to recycle the city’s #6 rigid plastics, which are currently dumped into landfills.

The company says recycling foam will save the city hundreds of jobs and bring in millions of dollars in savings.
