Contracting Business offers a case study of the use of equipment from Daikin Applied at Bethel University in St. Paul, MN.
The two residence halls – which are connected by a lounge – are a combined 52,720 square feet. The 40-year-old equipment serving them was not keeping students comfortable. The goal was to replace the system with one offering drier air, better ventilation and the ability to report on indoor air quality on an hourly basis.
The choice, Rebel rooftop units from Daikin Applied, use direct expansion technology. This, according to the school, reduced chilled water use, created efficiencies and reheated air with minimal moisture.
Units were installed in August 2013, August 2014 and March 2015. Humidity levels, which exceeded 80 percent before the installations, now are below 55 percent.
American City and County reported this week that The Cooperating Purchasing Network (TCPN) has given Daikin Applied a national contract. The contract gives TCPN members a stronger position when dealing with Daikin Applied when they shop for HVAC-related equipment and services. TCPN members are schools, states and local governments.
