Cyber Attacks Threaten Water, Wastewater Plants EHS Activities

Cyber attacks on industrial targets such as water and wastewater treatment plants in 2014 increased more than 25 percent since 2011, according to the US Department of Homeland Security’s Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team (ICS-CERT).

Water & Wastes Digests says according to the report, in 40 percent of those incidents, a lack of detection and monitoring capabilities meant experts did not know how hackers intruded the system.

Gray Matter Systems has partnered with Tempered Networks to provide a system that that secures ICS and SCADA environments for critical infrastructure industries including water and wastewater treatment plants. This system can help prevent cyber incidents that have a potentially harmful effect on public health and the environment such as chemical over- or under-dosing of water treatment systems.
