Waterfund and IBM have signed an agreement with the Ministry of Water and Environment of the Republic of Uganda that makes the country the first in Africa to become a member of the Water Cost Index. Waterfund, with IBM acting as calculation agent, will work with the Ministry of Water and Environment to calculate the cost of producing water in Uganda. This work will reflect estimated water production costs measured in US dollars per cubic meter and be published as part of the Rickards Real Cost Water Index, to be updated monthly.
Industrial waste water treatment BioteQ Environmental Technologies has secured a contract from Teck Resources Limited to conduct pilot scale testing of its Selen-IX technology for selenium removal. Under the terms of the agreement, BioteQ will construct and deploy a pilot scale plant for on-site field testing. BioteQ will retain ownership of the pilot plant and all associated intellectual property. The total value of the contract will be around $870,000.
CO2 Solutions and Codexis have renewed until March 31, 2015 their joint development agreement to continue the development and deployment of CO2 Solutions' enzymatic carbon capture technology. Under the JDA, CO2 Solutions' enzymatic method for the capture of CO2 from power plants, oil production operations and other large sources of emissions will continue to use Codexis' directed enzyme evolution technology and enzyme production capabilities.
AkzoNobel Surface Chemistry has selected the Arkieva Sales and Operations Planning and Inventory Analyzer for its worldwide supply chain operations. The company says it selected Arkieva S&OP because of the product’s reliable forecasting and planning characteristics and the ease with which it integrates with AkzoNobel's existing SAP ERP system. AksoNobel says that the inventory analyzer will help it better control the millions of dollars’ worth of inventory it deals with on a monthly basis.
The largest drinking water purification plant in Europe to use GE’s ZeeWeed 500 water treatment technology is under construction in Ravenna, Italy. The new plant, which is run by Romagna Acque – Società delle Fonti SpA, will have capacity to treat 95 million liters of water per day, providing drinking water to 400,000 people.
Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company has signed a binding, 20-year firm transportation precedent agreement with Mitsubishi Corporation to ship 600,000 dekatherms per day of natural gas earmarked for the proposed Cameron LNG liquefaction facility in Hackberry, La., which is slated to begin LNG exports in the second half of 2017. Mitsubishi will serve as the foundation shipper for TGP’s Southwest Louisiana Supply Project, which is designed to provide transportation from various supply basins in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and Louisiana to Cameron Interstate Pipeline, which connects directly to the Cameron LNG Terminal.
The Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments has selected RBF Consulting to provide planning services for the Sustainable Communities Strategy Scenarios Development and Public Participation project. RBF will work with the AMBAG staff member agencies and community members to develop, evaluate and compare growth, land use and transportation scenarios and weigh policy options.
