Constellation Wines U.S. announced it has begun the installation of a 1.2 megawatt solar system, which will produce about 60 percent of the winery's average energy needs, or more than 1,700,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year.
The company is touting the solar installation as the largest solar system at a winery in the world, with more than 6,000 solar panels to cover about 170,000 square feet of the main winery warehouse roof.
The system is expected to reduce 1.6 million pounds of CO2 emissions, around 1,600 pounds of sulfur dioxide, and about 2,900 pounds of nitrogen oxides annually.
The project is being financed and built by Pacific Power Management and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
The company joins a host of wineries, such as Frog's Leap, Foster’s Wine Estates, Jarvis, and Robert Keenan, that have installed solar systems.
