Connecticut Hires 3 Vendors for State-Wide LED Street Light Conversion

The Connecticut Conference of Municipalities (CCM) has selected three companies to implement its municipal street light LED conversion program.

The vendors - Tanko Lighting, ESCO Energy Services and SolLux Technologies - will work with CCM's 153 member communities to implement the state-wide program, which, with full participation, is estimated to be valued between $75 and $90 million, according to ESCO.

The State of Connecticut has a total of 169 municipalities, of which 153 are members of CCM. About 5 percent of the municipalities currently own their street lights, and to date no municipality has completed a total conversion to LED streetlights.

“As we are in the early stages of the program, we do not have an estimate of potential project cost/savings,” said Andrew Merola, CCM’s energy and program development manager. “LED implementation is an ongoing effort that is likely to continue for at least several years.”
