Image: TUBSThe Colorado Energy Office (CEO), the Energy Resource Center (ERC) and Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU) have installed a 2kW rooftop solar array to a low income family’s home as part of the state’s Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP). The press release says that the CEO WAP provides free energy efficiency technology to income-eligible households.
This is the first implementation of a decision by the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) authorization of CEO to integrate rooftop solar into weatherization services. The project being run by ERC and CSU will test the feasibility of a plan combining energy efficiency with rooftop solar for residents that pay more than 4 percent of household income on energy.
The Colorado chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council last fall said that an investment of $109 million in energy efficiency improvements would save almost four times that amount – about $415 million – over 10 years.
