Social enterprise Clean the World has obtained funding to the tune of more than $1.5 million from SunTrust. The financing will support the global expansion of the company’s hospitality recycling program, the addition of new CSR technology, and the addition of staff to support its health, hygiene distribution, education programs and volunteerism.

Clean the World works with hospitality partners to collect unused soap and hygiene products and distributes them to those in need. While the organization has distributed more than 46 million bars of soap in 127 countries, the organization needs more hotel partners in order to collect and distribute more products in the communities it serves.

The program has expanded rapidly in the last decade, including expansion into Asia and Europe, as companies in the hospitality industry increasingly adopt environmentally responsible practices.

Clean the World operates soap recycling centers in Orlando, Las Vegas, Hong Kong, Netherlands and Punta Cana. working with more than 5,000 hotel and resort partners, the organization benefits children and families in countries with a high pre-adolescent death rate due to pneumonia and cholera.

The hospitality industry discards millions of soap bars daily into landfills. Clean the World partners, including Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Marriott, and Hilton, have a collective goal of sending zero soap to landfill by 2030.

In the last few years, investors have increasingly pursuing strategies that consider relevant environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors.
