Choose Energy, an online marketplace for retail energy buyers, announced on November 17 that it has flipped the switch on the small business electricity marketplace in Texas, adding to its current availability in Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas.\
Over the past year, Choose Energy claims to have helped nearly 10,000 small businesses across the country to easily and quickly pick an electricity provider online; and, in the process, save 30 percent to 40 percent on their electricity costs.
Choose Energy first launched its online small business electricity marketplace in 2014 in Illinois, New York, and Pennsylvania. The company sees this as a growing market, with small businesses spending an average of $6,300 annually on electricity. Indeed, to date, only 50 percent of all eligible businesses have switched electricity suppliers – leaving a substantial number of prospects.
"Although buying electricity is not at the top of the list for most busy business owners, electricity bills are not a trivial expense: The majority of small businesses spend at least 10 percent of their operating costs on electricity," said Choose Energy CEO Kerry Cooper. "We hear from our SMB customers that they want to shop for electricity the same way consumers do – online, in minutes, and on their own time."
"Switching online was a quick and easy way to save a couple hundred dollars per year," commented Lori DeVeuve of Nauset Health Associates in Orleans, Massachusetts. "Anything we can do to cut our bills helps. We can put those savings toward growing our chiropractic business."
