Already having reduced emissions 6 percent from 2007 to 2008, AMD plans to further reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 33 percent by 2011.
At the company's seven global operations, total 2008 emissions were 119,867 metric tons of CO2 equivalents, according to the firm's Global Climate Protection Plan.
With regard to more energy efficient new products, AMD's 45nm Quad-Core Opteron EE processor is 62 percent more efficient than its predecessor, delivering a 13 percent reduction in platform-level power consumption.
AMD, which is an EPA Green Power partner, uses renewable energy as part of the Austin Energy GreenChoice program, at its Austin facility.
