A posting on WegoWise’s blog site says the city of Chicago has extended its energy benchmarking compliance deadline for buildings by two months, from June 1 to August 1, 2015.
Chicago’s law requires owners of commercial buildings over 50,000 square feet to track and verify energy consumption using the EPA’s Portfolio Manager. The requirement began in 2014 on a graduated scale, starting with the biggest buildings. The information about individual buildings will be publicly available starting in 2015.
This year, all municipal and commercial buildings above 50,000 square feet and multifamily buildings above 250,000 square feet must submit reports by August 1. Next year the deadline will be June 1, and all municipal, commercial and multifamily buildings above 50,000 square feet must comply.
The starting fine for non-compliance is $100 and then costs $25 per day.
