Building materials company CEMEX’s data center was awarded the Certified Energy Efficient Datacenter (CEEDA) Gold Certification which, the company said, is the highest of three levels of recognition for energy efficient datacenter strategy. CEMEX is the first company to win the gold in the Americas and only the fifth in the world.
The assessment was four months. It included onsite and remote elements and certified that the datacenter was consistent with best practices in energy efficiency from CEEDA and organizations such as The Green Grid, Energy Star and The European Commission Code of Conduct for Data Centre Energy Efficiency.
Gold certification denotes a “holistic: energy program, which includes green energy and water, heat efficiency and reutilization. The gold certification last two years, at which time a reassessment may be conducted.
In February, CEEDA awarded CLP Power Hong Kong Gold level certification. The award was for the high energy efficiency (HEEE) zone in CLP’s Shamshuipo datacenter. The facility, which opened in 2002, has a server area of 5,953 square feet. It was refurbished in September 2013 with a free cooling system, cold aisle containment and in-row cool.
