Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington is interested in developing a large solar array in the Washington, D.C. area of Woodridge to help cut its energy costs and fund improvements, according to the Washington Business Journal.
Plans have been submitted and, if approved, the project will involve the installation of 4,778 solar panels, expected to generate 1.72 megawatts of energy. According to the news outlet, Catholic Charities owns the Woodridge land and will lease it to a developer to build the array — and receive credit on its Pepco account for the energy generated. Design plans for the array were produced by Millersville, Maryland-based Solar Energy Services Inc.
A spokesperson from the charity said the project is expected to save the organization $200,000 per year.
