Carbonxt and United Conveyor Corporation have partnered to provide new emission control systems and sorbents for coal-fired power plants in North America and Europe.
The companies say the partnership combines their respective expertise in air quality control systems and activated carbon-based systems for the removal of mercury, thereby simplifying customer efforts to comply with stringent emission control regulations.
Earlier today the EPA published the Clean Power Plan in the federal register, making existing power plants in the US legally responsible to limit carbon pollution for the first time.
Under the new carbon law, existing coal-burning power plants must cut carbon emissions by 32 percent by 2030, compared to 2005 levels.
The joint Carbonxt-UCC system is applicable to any European or North American power generation project requiring the use of activated carbon injection to control mercury emissions, the companies say.
