The California Air Resources Board is offering up to $3.7 million in rebates for commercial medium- and heavy-duty trucks that are zero-emission or plug-in hybrid.
The program means that CARB will subsidize up to $20,000 toward the purchase of such vehicles, reports TruckingInfo. The program, which is first-come, first-serve, also apples to passenger vehicles.
In other California Air Resources Board news, the regulatory body recently fined Smart Refrigerated Transport $23,000 for failing to properly inspect its diesel trucks in 2008, according to LandLine.
Diesel engine manufacturers have been working to comply with EPA and CARB standards on truck emissions.
For instance, Navistar on March 18 received certification from EPA for its MaxxForce DT Advanced EGR mid-range diesel engines.
