Campbell's Cuts 1.5 Million Gallons of Water Per Day

campbells.jpgIn Campbell's latest corporate sustainability report (PDF) the company says it has reduced water consumption by 1.5 million gallons per day, due to installation of a system which recovers heat and recycles cooling water. The company plans to install similar systems in other facilities.

Based on goals set in 2005, the company has also achieved seven percent energy reduction in North America through initiatives such as energy audits, heat recovery projects and leak-detection techniques. Almost meeting its goal for reducing 10 percent energy-consumption by 2010.

As for recycling, the company reported it has recycled 70 percent of the 157,000 metric tons of solid waste generated by its U.S. manufacturing facilities.

The company is also spearheading the redevelopment of its hometown, Camden, N.J., at an estimated cost of $73 million to the company.
