The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) recently released “The 2008 State Energy Efficiency Scorecard” (PDF), which rated and ranked state-level action on model energy efficiency policies, programs and practices.
California topped the list followed by Oregon, Connecticut, Vermont, New York, and Washington.
Idaho was rated as the most improved state since the ACEEE's first state scorecard was issued in 2006. The state moved to 13th place from 25th place.
The report ranks states on a broad array of energy efficiency policy initiatives, including: utility-sector and public benefits efficiency programs and policies; transportation and land use policies; building energy codes; combined heat and power; appliance efficiency standards; energy efficiency in public buildings and fleets; research, development, and deployment; as well as financial incentives for efficient technologies.
In September, ACEEE released a report which says its time for U.S. manufacturing to consider energy efficiency.
Earlier this year, ACEEE reported that energy efficiency can make a larger contribution towards stabilizing energy prices and reducing greenhouse gas emissions — should we choose to fully develop it.
