The Colton Joint Unified School District in California will install SunPower Helix carport solar systems at 28 schools.

Together, the systems will generate about 6.1 MW of energy and save the school district more than $35 million during the next 25 years, according to the parties. The press release says that the carport systems will provide about 73 percent of the district’s power.

Under a power purchase agreement (PPA), the school district will buy power at what the press release says is a competitive rate and SunPower will own the renewable energy credits associated with the system. SunPower also will provide 1.1 MW of battery storage at seven schools.

Earlier this month, The Keystone Oaks School District in Pittsburgh and Schneider Electric completed a $3.4 million infrastructure project at four district schools.
