BornFree to Turn Bottles into Toys

Posted

BornFree has launched recyclable 5 oz and 9 oz baby bottles along with a national recycling program to turn the bottles into toys, furniture and other products.

The baby bottle maker said that the PES containers, made from new materials, are 100 percent PBA-free and phthalate-free. The bottles can be re-used many times, BornFree said, but parents who no longer need their bottles can return them to the company.

BornFree is establishing depot centers for the bottles in Target, Babies ‘R Us, BuyBuyBaby and Bed Bath & Beyond stores. In the meantime, customers can register their returns online and receive free postage.

"By purchasing BornFree Eco-Friendly bottles, consumers are making a conscious decision to do their part for both the health of their baby and the health of the planet,” BornFree president and co-founder Ron Vigor said.

Juvenile products manufacturer Summer Infant – which makes safety gates, monitors, highchairs and other products – acquired BornFree last month.

Studies have linked BPA to developmental problems, heart disease and diabetes. In March 2009, the six largest makers of baby bottles announced they would stop manufacturing baby bottles with BPA.

Wal-Mart, Whole Foods and Sears are among the retailers who have promised to stop selling items like baby bottles and sippy cups made with BPA, and customer complaints have prompted some manufacturers to switch to BPA-free materials.
