Aveda announced the installation and activation of a photovoltaic solar power system at its west coast distribution center in Los Angeles.
The solar system is expected to provide power for 85 percent of the L.A. facility's energy needs, which is currently 90,000 kilowatt hours annually. The new system will prevent 58 tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere. The company is exploring other eco-friendly initiatives to offset the emissions generated by the remaining 15 percent not provided by solar power.
Aveda purchased the solar system from First Solar.
The company, along with companies such as Abi Ferrin, are banking that the “green” approach to fashion is sustainable.
In January, Aveda joined a cadre of designers to make the Fall/Winter 2008 Fashion Week in New York more eco-friendly.
