PXiSE Energy, a unit of Sempra Energy, will install its Active Control Technology (ACT) as the distributed energy resources management system (DERMS) in Western Australia to help Horizon Power to manage distributed energy resources (DERs) in the future across its approximately 888,000-square-mile service area.
The technology will run on a standard Microsoft Windows platform and use embedded OSIsoft software and synchro-phasor data to enhance, analyze and respond to grid data from DERs. The development will enable the utility to enhance the efficiency and reliability of its electric grid by expanding its renewable energy portfolio.
The state-owned utility has more than 48,000 customers located in regional and remote communities.
According to PV Magazine, “while ACT has been deployed in pilot projects and is run on a winery microgrid in Northern California, neither this software or any other distributed energy management system has yet been implemented on a grid that covers a third of a continent.”
