Associated Food Stores is performing energy-efficiency audits at its member locations. It's also retrofitting lighting at five AFS corporate-owned locations in Utah.
The lighting upgrades at two Dan's and three Macey's locations are estimated to save AFS about 1.7 million kilowatt hours, equivalent to reducing more than 3 million pounds of CO2 emissions per year.
Electricity bills are expected to be reduced by more than $83,000 per year. The improved lighting fixtures is expected to provide 30 percent more light output.
Lime Energy, which is performing the audits and the retrofits, will also assist AFS in securing an estimated $124,000 in utility incentives to help fund the projects.
Lime Energy recently completed an energy efficiency retrofit for Jetro Cash and Carry. Last year, the company reduced Modell's Sporting Goods' energy consumption by about 7.4 million kilowatt hours per year, or about 17 percent energy savings.
