Arby’s Restaurant Group has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Better Buildings Challenge program for cutting 38 percent of energy use at its flagship site in Atlanta.
The DoE story says that Arby’s was one of the first restaurants to join its Better Buildings Challenge. It has pledged to cut energy use by 20 percent in 10 years. It is more than halfway to that goal after four years. The company uses 2.7 million square-feet of space.
The savings have come from Arby’s Efficiency Matters campaign, which launched in 2012. The goal set at that point was to cut energy use by 15 percent by the end of this year. The company's full scale energy data monitoring system, according to the story, provides inputs into lighting retrofits, HVAC upgrades and hot water efficiency. The company has improved energy performance across 92 percent of its 900 locations.
This is not the only recognition Arby’s has received lately. Last summer, The Better Buildings Alliance said the company was one of 18 winners of The 2015 (Phase 2) LEEP Campaign Awards. LEEP stands for “Lighting Energy Efficiency in Parking.”
