The chain, in the story at Restaurant.News.com, also reduced water use by 8.6 percent in the same timeframe.

The company had pledged in 2012 to achieve the 15 percent energy reduction. The savings, the story said, included a 21 percent reduction in electricity use and a 2.5 percent reduction in natural gas consumption. The savings were realized by a combination of behavioral and technical changes. The technical changes included HVAC systems and cook equipment.

Arbys was recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Better Buildings Challenge last year for cutting energy use by 38 percent in its flagship Atlanta site.
